John Ono Lennon (10.9.1940 – 1.8.1980) was a British composer who hit global fame as the founder of The Beatles Band, the prototype of a commercially successful brand in popular music. He was born and raised in Liverpool, and, as a teen-ager, became involved in the skiffle craze; his first band, The Quarrymen, became The Beatles in 1960. He let show his restless personality and acerbic wit in his music, his writing, his drawings, on film, and in interviews, becoming controversial through his political and peace activism.
As of 2012, his solo album sales surpassed 14 million, only in the US, and as a musician, he alone is responsible for 25 number-one singles on the US Hot 100 chart.
